The platypus is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to eastern Australia. It is a species frequently observed in the Yea River and its anabranches. The best time for observing a Platypus is early morning and evening.
Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth.
